Today we will share some newborn photography tips for baby boys. You will also find tips for toddlers as well!
Newborn Photography Tips:
Oh yes we are going to talk about boys, and no we don’t mean gossip 😉 There always seems to be more out there for girls than boys but we know that those little handsome guys are just as important! Here are 6 handy tricks!
Tip #1: Invest in neutral props.
If you are a seasoned photographer, then you likely have an abundance of photography props in your studio or home, at your disposal. The beauty of investing in props that are of neutral and natural tones, like the Fireside Log Stool in the below picture, is that you can use it for both girls and boys. Now, granted, this is an older child in the below example, but you could definitely use something like this for a newborn baby too. How adorable would a sleeping newborn look on something like this?
Tip #2: Not just for girls.
We often see baby girls in the pose below, but they work for baby boys just as well. Try playing around with poses and props that you would normally only use for little girls.
Tip #3: Think outside of the box.
Angel Wings are another prop that can be used as a gender neutral item, but again, you only see them being photographed on girls for the most part. When a mother or grandmother exclaims “My little Angel”…that’s usual meant for both boys and girls, right? So why can’t Angel wings be for boys too?
Don’t be afraid to break away from the norm photographers! When we do, that’s when we usually grow in our art the most.
Tip #4: Be creative. Capture the moment, don’t make it.
Ok, so maybe that is a loaded statement. I mean, we are photographers so we are naturally creative, right?! Well, yes…for the most part. But just like all things, even we get into creative ruts. A lot of newborn and children’s photography is all about capturing the face, the beautiful smiles, or the peaceful sleeping baby. But as you can see in the photo below, there is something to be said about a photo that just captures a moment–a moment that isn’t made, but happens naturally.
Tip #5: When in doubt, ACCESSORIZE!
What baby boy doesn’t look good in baby versions of adult accessories? Glasses on a baby! Are you kidding me? What is NOT cute about that? When you dress up your little baby boys like the Mr. Handsome in the picture below, you will literally be able to hear the collective sighs of “awwwwww” from across the internet!
Tip #6: Hats, hats, and more HATS!
Seriously, need we say more? I can’t think of anything more adorable on baby boys than hats. Technically, they probably fall under Tip #4 because they are an accessory, but we love hats so much we believe they should have their own category.
We love the Pub & Fedora style hats in the photos below!
Alright, that’s all for now photographers! We hope you have enjoyed our newborn photography tips for baby boys and are able to apply them to your next session.
